Costs:
The Cuba AIDS Project does not make a profit on your traveling expenses such as hotel, flights, etc. Our symposium registration fee is how we keep ourselves funded. Included in your registration fee is the right to travel under our license and also our help with making your travel arrangements. There is a $158 a day spending limit while in Cuba imposed by the US Treasury Department. Please use the data below as a guide:
** Please note that this does not include your $395 registration fee and required medical dination. See the travel requirements section for more details.

  • Flight from US to Cuba - Our group normally flies out of Havana on a US Treasury Department authorized charter. On average, these flights range from $299 - $369 round trip depending on the charter company and destination (Havana or Santiago de Cuba). Of course, you are responsible for your transportation from your home to Miami. In addition to airfare, there is another $50 departure tax which must be paid in cash at the Miami airport.

  • Cuban Visa: - Your visa to enter Cuba, which is purchased in Miami, is $50 US.

  • Housing: - The Cuba AIDS Project urges you to stay in a casa particular while in Cuba. This is a legal, licensed house with a Cuban family. You have your own air conditioned room with private bath but more importantly, you get the exposure to the day to day living of a Cuban family. Casa particulars range from $25 - $35 per night. Your other option is to stay in a hotel. Depending on the quality of the hotel, prices range from $40 - $125 per night. Either way, we will help you make your arrangements.

  • Transportation: - In Cuba, the Cuba AIDS Project travels by bus as a group. The bus provides pickup from the airport upon arrival, transportation to all scheduled symposium events, transportation to Cienfuegos and drop off to the airport for departure. The fee for the bus is $125 payable along with your registration fee.

  • Food: - This is of course relative to where and how much you eat, but we suggest planning on $25 per day for eating three meals a day at moderately priced restaurants. Food is also available at licensed casa particulars.

  • Event Fees: - This covers event fees for the first nights group dinner and Cienfuegos group dinner. The fee is: $30

  • Incidentals: - We suggest planning for $30 a day for incidentals such as bottled water, taxis for after hours travel, etc.
